San Marino Smalto Roccia Lady’s Vase

San Marino Smalto Roccia Lady’s Vase

Beautiful vase made of white clay probably by Ceramiche Titano, San Marino Italy.
The vase has the shape of a pilgrims bottle, with eight eyes for a thick rope. Formally it was a decorative liquor bottle for the tourist industry, but now it’s wanted by collectors.  Beautiful sgraffito decorations of a lady’s head with flowers and a still life with a bottle, glass and grapes. The thick Fat Lava background glaze is called Smalto Roccia.  The hair and face of the lady are skilfully made on a matte black face against a glossy dark red background.  See the vibrant light blue eyes and flowers.  There is a chip under one of the rope eyes, but you can’t see it as it stands.
The base is rough and undefined.
The condition is excellent.
